Job Description for Journeyman/Arborist:

Applicant requirements: 

  • Wants to work outside full time year round.
  • High school diploma minimum, however, advanced course work or university degree with an interest in horticulture appreciated. 
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, and reliable transportation to and from work, CDL preferred. 
  • Proficient tree climber, Certified Arborist or 1to 2 years of landscape/tree work experience. 
  • Proficiency in the use of  tree injection equipment and or fertilizing equipment appreciated, Illinois licensed Spray Operator or Applicator an advantage.
  • Demonstrates high safety standards.
  • Must be able to lift 50-75lbs.

Job expectations: Arborist will be training with a unique team of experts and demonstrate proficiency in or learn to safely operate all equipment used in the trimming and caring for trees, including chain saws, brush chipper, 2 1/2 ton dump truck (working towards B license or CDL license), and high pressured fertilizing/spraying equipment, and trunk injection equipment.  Arborist will demonstrate proficiency or will learn safe and responsible use of rope and saddle to climb trees and act as a responsible grounds crew for other arborists while they are aloft.  Arborist will be responsible for self-motivated production on a small crew in all operations of tree care including tree identification and disease and pest diagnosis, tree climbing, tree trimming, fertilizing, plant health care applications, brush and log clean up requiring the lifting of loads up to 50 to 75lbs, and tree and shrub removals and plantings.

Arborist will be expected to arrive to work on time, prepared for outdoor work with appropriate attire and a cheerful attitude.  Arborist will attend and participate in regular safety, training and organizational meetings held during regular business hours and help be responsible in the maintenance and upkeep of equipment that is used on the job.  Arborist will be expected to attend appropriate educational seminars and be maintaining or working toward ISA arborist certification.  This will require employees to learn the names of plants with which they are working and the proper horticultural methods of maintaining their long-term health and beauty within the context of the Arborsmith Advantage ProcessTM.  These skills and this knowledge base should be able to be clearly communicated to clients and other team members in possible training situations of seasonal staff.

Candidate will possess character traits including commitment, honesty, enjoyment of hard physical work outdoors, positive mental attitude and a teachable spirit.  They should enjoy working with a team cooperating to achieve a common objective.  They should attend to detail.  They will be working and training in the unique process of the Arborsmith AdvantageTM.  They will also be required to take the Kolbe to show compatibility with the Arborsmith Team.  Position is an hourly pay structure.  Benefits available will be outlined at the interview stage of hiring.
